George Grant paintings George was born in Port of Mentieth Stirlingshire, and after living in various parts of Scotland, has settled in Kilbarchan Renfrewshire. During his working life as a designer, George attended Glasgow School of Art. After many years of exhibiting and selling, he is now fulfilling his ambition in being a full time painter. His subjects are mainly Scottish, places where people and landscape are closely bound together. George is particularly drawn to the mystical times associated with Scottish ritual and festival. Diverse influences include Scottish painting before the Colourists, Pringle, Guthrie, Cameron and Walton, also small scale work of Seurat, Vuillard, Pinkham Ryder, Whistler and Turner. Photography is important as both source and influence, notably amateur and early images. George works in oil, acrylic, conte and photography. He has exhibited in solo and mixed exhibitions in many Scottish galleries. In the Paisley Art Institute he has been awarded the Scottish Drawing Purchase Prize 2000, the Arnold Clark Painting Prize in 2001, and was a finalist in the Aspect prize 2005, exhibiting in the joint prizewinners show in January 2006. | ||
